Chicago house and footwork pioneer DJ Rashad died at age 34 of apparent drug overdose in his hometown over the weekend.
According to The Chicago Sun-Times, the Calumet City resident – born Rashad Harden – was found unresponsive by a friend Saturday in a South Side apartment.
Chicago Police spokeswoman Janel Sedevic noted that there were narcotics and drug paraphernalia found near his body, and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office scheduled his autopsy for Sunday.

His father Anthony Harden revealed Rashad had a prescription for Xanax.
‘He shared his music with everyone that would listen,’ Anthony told the newspaper.
‘He’s been all over the world, taking footwork all over the world.’
The Double Cup performer – whose sixth studio album We On 1 drops on Monday – leaves behind a nine-year-old son Chad.

Chance The Rapper led the celebrities in hip-hop and house paying their respects to Rashad, who opened for his Social Experiment Tour.
‘Music lost a legend today,’ the Justin Bieber collaborator tweeted. ‘And he was my friend. Love you DJ Rashad. RIP.’
2 Chainz, Flosstradamus, and Jay Electronica also tweeted condolences to Rashad.

English house duo Guy & Howard Lawrence aka Disclosure wrote: ‘Really sad to hear about DJ Rashad Another inspirational pioneer of an amazing wave of music. R.I.P. and thoughts to his family.’
And Detroit rapper Danny Brown lamented: ‘Music lost a legend…DJ Rashad will be missed…My prayers go out to everyone saddened by this tragedy.’
The Windy City is still mourning the loss of yet another house pioneer Frankie Knuckles, who perished from complications of Type II diabetes last month.
